DeMint was born in South Carolina in 1951. DeMint earned his Bachelors from the University of Tennessee and an MBA from Clemson. DeMint founded a market research firm, the DeMint Group, where he was President until he decided to quit that position and enter politics in 1998. DeMint won election as a House Representative for South Carolina’s 4th district in 1998 and won re-elections in 2000 and 2002. DeMint then won the South Carolina Senate race in 2004 and re-election in 2010, where he currently holds office.
