
Westmoreland was born on April 2, 1950 in Atlanta, Georgia. Westmoreland went to Georgia State University, but dropped out to start his construction company, L.A.W. Builders. He worked in construction and real estate development for the company. While developing the business Westmoreland was elected to the Georgia State House in 1993 where he served for 12 years, eventually becoming Republican leader of the House. Lynn would sit in the Georgia House until his election to the U.S. House of Representatives for Georgia’s 8th district in 2004. He has held the seat since 2005 although he has now moved to the 3rd district.
