Paul was born in Pittsburgh, PA in 1935. He earned his Bachelors from Gettysburg College in 1957 and his M.D. from Duke University. Paul worked as an Air Force flight surgeon until 1976 when he was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives for Texas's 22nd district in a special election. He lost the general election, but won the seat back in 1978. Paul served in the House from 1979-1985, stepping down to work on several ventures before re-entering politics in 1996 when he was elected to represent Texas' 14th district in the House. He has held the seat since 1997 and ran an unsuccessful campaign for President in 2008. Paul is seeking the U.S. Presidency in 2012.
