Goode was born October 17, 1946 in Richmond, Virginia. He earned his B.A. from the University of Richmond and his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law. While in school served in the Army National Guard for 6 years. Goode's political career began at an early age. Shortly after law school he won election to the Virginia State Senate where he would serve for 24 years. He left the State Senate after winning election to the U.S. House of Representatives for Virginia's 5th district where he would serve for 12 years. During this period Goode switched from Democrat to Independent to Republican. In 2010 Goode switched to the Constitution Party and in 2012 was named the Party's nominee for President.
